The Government is seeking views on how to change the law to reduce family conflict during divorce proceedings.
Under current law, anyone seeking a divorce must either prove their partner is at fault or the couple must live apart for a substantial period of time.
Both routes can cause additional stress and upset for the divorcing couple. This can be detrimental to the outcomes for them and any children. There have been wide calls to reform the law, often framed as removing the concept of "fault".
See Reform of the legal requirements for divorce on the Ministry of Justice website for more information.
The consultation closes on 10 December 2018.
