The Board of Trustees of Barking and Dagenham Council for Voluntary Service (BDCVS) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Phillip Banks as our new Chief Executive Officer.
With nearly three decades of leadership experience in the VCFSE sector, Phillip joins us not just as an executive, but as a deeply committed advocate for community-led change. His career has been defined by a unique ability to bridge diverse sectors—from mental health and addictions to sexual health and social services. Having founded organizations in Canada and Switzerland and served on numerous boards (including film festivals, and centres for volunteer and leadership development), Phillip brings a global perspective grounded in a profound respect for local action.
Beyond his operational expertise, Phillip is a certified executive coach who specializes in supporting leaders navigating complexity. He understands the pressures faced by CEOs and senior leaders in our borough. He is eager to leverage this experience to strengthen the capacity of our member organizations and enhance BDCVS’ role as an advocate for our sector.
Phillip’s lifelong passion for volunteering and citizen action aligns perfectly with BDCVS’s mission. He is deeply committed to addressing the social determinants of health and believes that the most relevant and sustainable solutions come from within the community itself.
The Board invites everyone to join us in welcoming Phillip. He is ready to listen, collaborate, and roll up his sleeves to help BDCVS continue its vital work. We look forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
Please give him some time to settle in and then reach out to Phillip! He is keen to hear your ideas on how we can best support our communities and work together to strengthen Barking and Dagenham.
